Day Care = T.V. Time

New research published in the December issue of the journal Pediatrics found that kids in child care settings could be watching as much as 2.4 hours of television on an average day.
A study from the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development examined 168 child care programs and found that 70 percent of home-based and 36 percent of center-based programs showed television to preschool kids.

"Most parents don't know what happens at their children's preschool," said author Dr. Dimitri Christakis, who directs the Center for Child Health.

Researchers surveyed licensed home-based and center-based day cares in multiple states that took care of children under the age of 5. It was reported reported that on an average day, home-based programs showed about 1.6 hours to toddlers, compared with 0.1 hours for center-based programs, and 2.4 hours to preschool children compared with 0.4 hours.

Previous estimates that children spend about three hours a day watching television are incorrect, because those numbers relied on parents to calculate the number. In addition to this recent study that indicated that some day care centers show about 2.4 hours of screen time, some American preschool children could be watching as much as five hours a day.

Jay Leno not Funny?

When it comes to late night t.v. i have liked Jay Leno. Several months ago Jay hanjded over the Late Night Show to Connan O'Brian. Must thought Jay would retire but instead he signed a contract to the Jay Leno Show, a new prime time show on NBC, 8-9 p.m. (MST). The Jay Leno Show follows the same format that the Late Night Show followed including "Jaywalking", "Headlines" and even Keven Eubanks his sidekick band leader.

Recently NBC and the Jay Leno Show have taken criticism for the lack of success over the new show. Newsweek Magazine's entertanment column labeled Jay Leno as one of the "Top 10 Unfunny Commics," he was number 8 on the list. Newsweek called him "Uncle Jay" because he was too crude for the older audience and too "Meh" for the unger audience.

Ever since I was old enough to say up to watch the Late Night Show I have liked Jay Leno. I like Connan O'Brian but i like Jay more, what i don't like is his new time slot. Jay even said if NBC offered him his old job back even with his respect for

New Script for Domain Names

The organization that controls domain codes for Internet addresses is Voting on whether or not to permit non-Latin language codes for the first time in its history.

The board of directors of the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will vote on the proposed protocol for Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs,)Friday at its meeting in Seoul, South Korea.

The change, which has a target implementation date of November 16, would allow Web addresses in Cyrillic, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese and others.

I think that this would limit the internet for latin based users who make up the majority of internet patron. Seeing as how english is the most widely spoken language in the worl inter net should remain latin based so that every one will have a universal way to access the internet

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize?

I went to CNN for some direct news commetary of President Obama being awarded the nobel Peace Prize. CNN' cemmentary focused on the immedite response from bloggers opinions published on twitter and facebook. The significant and opinionated worldwide tweeters believe that Obama should refuse the prize. In oposition antwerp tweeting site from Nacogdoches.usa stated in their news programing that "This is a great day for the United States." Bloggers fom Ausralia wrote "We are filled with happiness and hope, by Obama's Nobel Peace Prize."

CNN reported on many websites reponce to the News release that Obama would Recieve the Nobel Peace Prize. What made this press release news for many media outlets was, why did Obama deserve this recognition, by example one Boston Globe reporter states, "Can someone explane? I thought this award was for accomplishments not intentions."

State of Play

I got to watch a great movie this weekend. The movie was titled State of Play and stared Russel Crow. Russel Crow played a seasoned news paper reporter for the Washing Globe. The storyline begins with a murder of a thief who stole a anamous briefcase and the murder of an innocent by-stander.

This is a thrilling movie and a great mystery about how newspaper reports and news media follow a current local story. The movie potrias the chalenges of newpaper reporters and their managers in detemining what is imporant news and what sells newspapers.

What was interesting to me was the struggle between online news sourses and printed sources, and the fact that the movie potrayed this as an important media issue. Newspapers and their future is an important media issue. Russel Crow and a great movie story make issue more relevent to the question of whether newspapers will remain an important mews source.

Obama's agenda on Saturday Night Live

I watched Chris Matthews on CBS channel 3 and caught a report about President
Obobama and his current successes. CBS panalist memember Clerance Page, who is a columinist for the Chicago Tribune, mentioned a satrire of President Obama on "Saturaday Night Live". Page reconized the importance of Saturday Night Live's comic stage as an imporant forum for the reality of President Obama's political successes and failures in office. The skit given by Fred Armisen possed Perident Obama's successes and failures in months in office. Oboma promosed us changes we could all believe in.
  • Guantamamo Bay closed No...
  • Troops out of Iraq Nope...
  • Afganistan under control Worse...
  • Healthcare Reform HELL NO...
  • Global Warming Chilli...
  • Immigration Reform Nada...
  • Gays in the Military No Wayyyyyy...
  • Limits on Executive power Nooo...
  • Torture Prosecutions NO I'll never tell, beat me if you must...

Despite having a majority in both Houses President Obama is doing "Jack Squat" acording to Fred Armisen on Saturday Night Live and acording to the distinguised panel of profesional news gatherers on The Chris Matthews Show. It was interesting to me that The Chris Matthews Show thought that skits on Saturday Night Live are a significant news source

Pearl Jam Rocks San Francisco

Pearl Jam entertained thousands at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this past weekend. The concert went from August 28 through the 30. There were over a hundred bands for the 100,000 concert goers to choose from. Some of the featured headliners included Incubus, Dave Matthews Band, M.I.A. and Tenacious D

It was a perfect 70-degree day for the show's debut. The crowds rivaled that of Woodstock in 1969. Woodstock is celebrating its 40 year anniversary in August. Woodstock was infamously known for its drug use. So lead singer Eddie Vedder said to the fans, “Is everybody good out there? Everybody staying safe? I hope so because there’s a whoooole hell of a lot of you out there so keep track of each other, help each other up,” said Vedder. “And don’t eat the brown acid. The mushrooms are fine.”
